  1. Lubliniec is one of the oldest towns in Poland.
  2. During the interwar years Lubliniec was the biggest border town in the country in terms of area.
  3. Richard Courant, a world famous mathematician, was born in Lubliniec. The prestigious Courant Institute at the New York State University is named after him.
  4. In the years 2003, 2004 and 2005 Lubliniec won the 2nd, 3rd and 2nd place respectively as the Most Attractively Illuminated Local Government Area.
  5. The Little Town Square won the 1st place in a competition for the Best Public Space in the Silesian Province for 2006.
  6. In October 2008 St Theresia Benedicta of the Cross – Edith Stein, Patron of Europe, became the Patron Saint of Lubliniec.
  7. In 2009 the first museum in Poland in honour of St Edith Stein was opened.
  8. In 2007 – 2011 eight modern publicly accessible sport centres, including three Orlik Centres, were built within the municipal area.
  9. In 2008 an area adjacent to Klonowa Street totalling 32 hectares of land was included in the Katowice Special Economic Zone.
  10. Lubliniec ranked 2nd in the 2010 Local Government Area Ranking conducted by the Rzeczpospolita newspaper.
  11. In 2009 the town received a commendation in a competition for a most environmentally aware local government (Eko Gmina 2009), conducted by the Provincial Environment Protection and Water Management Board.
  12. One of the most elite Polish defence units is stationed in the town.
  13. Each year Lubliniec attracts lovers of extreme sports, who compete in challenging cross-country runs, such as the Convict Run and Commando Knife Run.
  14. Lubliniec has one of the densest networks of bicycle trails and paths totalling 120km in length.
  15. Lubliniec has been hosting an experimental project showcasing cultures of respective EU countries. Named Europe in Lubliniec, the project has been funded jointly by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage and the European Commission.
  16. In 2009 Professor Jerzy Buzek, an Honorary Citizen of the Town of Lubliniec, was appointed a President of the European Parliament.
